Some 'Before & After' Pictures
Gunnislake
The picture above was taken at the branch terminus of Gunnislake in September 1986. A new station was opened here in early 1995 at a new location, subsequently truncating the branch by about 200 yards. The old station site eventually became a housing estate, as seen in the picture below, taken in June 2006. The bushes on the right and trees in the background offer a connection between the two photographs.
Ocean & Deep Navigation
This location is Ocean Junction, South Wales. The tracks on the right of the picture, above, lead into Deep Navigation Colliery, while the track in the foreground leads to Taff Merthyr Colliery. Both pits were victims of the closures in the early 1990's. The picture above was taken in August 1991 and the picture below was taken five years later in 1996.
Silverdale Colliery
These two pictues were taken from exactly the same vantage point at Silverdale, near Stoke-On-Trent.
The above picture was taken in August 1991. The picture below was taken in June 2011. A new housing estate is being built on the colliery
site and this part of the railway line is now a footpath and cycle track.
Denby Branch
The picture above shows one of the 'Denby Dawdler' specials which ran on 22 April 1989. The engine is 20 114. A view from the same road bridge in June 2010 shows that no trains have passed this spot for many years and vegitation has completely taken over. On the right of the picture are the same houses as in the previous picture.
