Around Birmingham
This picture taken on 1st September 1986 shows a DMU approaching Aston from the Litchfield line before the Cross-City electrification.
Class 304 unit no. 016 at Duddeston station on 10 March 1986 with a Walsall to New Street train.
Disused carriage shed on the right of the picture. This was the station to alight for the short five minute walk to Saltley depot.
It was easy to see most of the locos stabled at Saltley as an industrial estate provided an excelent view of the depot. 50 073 was photographed
on 1st September 1986.
50 041 seen at Saltley depot on 23 August 1986.
50 019 and 50 001 are seen passing through Kings Norton with the 07.35 Cardiff
to Edinburgh train on 11 April 1987. This location has since been electrified for
Birmingham Cross-City services to Longbridge and Redditch.
Many long distance trains changed locos at Birmingham New Street, often from diesel to electric or vice versa. There were waiting
diesel locomotives often to be found in the centre roads such as this peak, 45 134 waiting to take-over a southbound train on 18 April 1987.
I travelled behind this back to Gloucester.
47 575 and 85 020 at Birmingham New Street on 11 April 1987.
