Gunnislake branch
The very scenic eleven mile long Gunnislake branch diverges from the
main line at St. Budeaux, about four miles west of Plymouth station.
In this view, DMU No. P468 is seen at the end of the line at Gunnislake
station on 20 september 1986. The unit will shortly return to Plymouth.
The branch features two ungated level crossings over minor roads where the
train must come to a complete standstill and then proceed with caution. In this
view, A class 108 DMU is seen at one of these crossings on 7 September 1991.
On the sme day, the branch DMU is seen trundling over the very impressive Calstock viaduct which crosses
the River Tamar from Devon (foreground) into Cornwall.
A view taken from the train as it approaches an open road crossing
on the outskirts of Gunnislake on 20 September 1986.
The journey along the Gunnislake branch includes a reversal at Bere Alston. In this picture, the DMU is pausing
in the station while the driver changes ends and the guard changes the points by means of a ground frame. 20 September 1986.
There is another picture of Gunnislake station on the 'Before & After' page.
