Ledbury Area
Ledbury is situated on the line from Hereford to Worcester and is the only passing place on the single track section
between Shelwick Junction(Hereford) and Malvern. In this picture, taken on 13 May 1990, 47 583 is seen emerging from the
1316 yard long single track
Ledbury Tunnel with a Sunday afternoon train from Paddington to Hereford.
Exactly one week earlier, on the 6 May 1990, 47573 is seen entering the station at Ledbury, with the tunnel in the
background.
Ledbury Viaduct is about half a mile to the west of the station and is seen here being crossed by 47 583,
the same train as in the first picture.
Six miles to the east of Ledbury is Malvern Wells signal box where the double-track section from Worcester becomes single.
There is no station here. 47 820 is seen passing with another Paddington To Hereford Sunday afternoon train
on 30 June 1991. The train is gathering speed after stopping at Great Malvern, about a mile from this location.
