Lostwithiel
On 6 April 1988, I spent the day taking pictures of trains at Lostwithiel, situated on the Cornish main line.
All the photographs on this page were taken that day. This first view shows 37 674 arriving at Lostwithiel with a
southbound clay train.
50 149 is seen in the southbound loop. This picture was taken from the level crossing, which is right next to the
station.
50 025 has just entered the sidings at Lostwithiel with this claytrain from St. Blazey.
37 699 is seen standing in the station before coupling to the clay wagons which had been dropped off by 50 025.
This picture was taken just north of the station and shows 50 003 heading away from
Lostwithiel with a northbound van train from Penzance.
The 'clayhood' wagons on the right of the picture are probably stored out of use as a new fleet of air braked
hopper wagons for china clay had recently been introduced.
37 674 and 50 025 are seen leaving for St Blazey depot after shunting the sidings
next to the station. Lostwithiel is the Junction for the freight-only branch to Carne Point where china clay is loaded into
ships and exported.
50 038 is pictured approaching Lostwithiel with a southbound express. The clay train on the left is parked in the northbound
loop.
