Around Didcot, Oxford & Banbury
This is one of those lucky pictures that you get from time to time! This picture was taken on 24 April 1990 at
Foxhall Junction, Didcot.
58 018 is arriving with a coal train for Didcot power station while an HST from London speeds past on the down fast line.
58 027 heads a northbound empty coal train away from the power station on 24 April 1990. This section of track, known as
Didcot West Curve, sees relatively few passenger trains.
Ealier the same day, 50 031 is seen to the east of Didcot with an Oxford to Paddington train.
This picture was taken from a footbridge just south of Oxford station on 24 April 1990. 56 046 is seen passing through
the station with, what I think is, a Wolverton to Tytherington stone train. The two class 121 units were coupled together
to work an Oxford to Banbury service.
A London bound class 115 unit is seen heading away from Princes Risborough on 17 March 1990. At the time, the whole line into
Marylebone was being upgraded with new signalling and new trains.
47 828 is seen at Aynho Junction, just to the south of Banbury, with a southbound intercity train. This location is where
the Marylebone line diverges from the Oxford line. The picture was taken from a farm overbridge which provided an excellent view
of the semaphore bracket signal. 17 March 1990.
Taken on the same day, two class 121 single-car units with 55024 leading, are seen leaving Banbury station with a train for Oxford.
An unidentified class 47 is seen arriving at Banbury with a southbound intercity train on 17 March 1990.
