Settle & Carlisle
A northbound class 31 hauled train seen just south of Garsdale. The distant signal for
Garsdale signal box can be seen in the distance. Picture taken on 21 July 1990. This
was a last visit to the line in order to get pictures of loco-hauled trains.
This picture was taken later the same day from Blea Moor and shows another northbound
train, this time passing over Ribblehead viaduct.
This train was running very late! Knowing it was due to be piloted by a class 56, I stood
there in the pouring rain for ages just waiting for that signal to be pulled off. On 4 November 1989,
56 104 and 47 503 head north at Blea Moor.
This picture was taken on 24 Febuary 1990 and shows 25 912 piloting 47 442 on a southbound train, seen while
stopped at Dent station in torrential rain. Also operating over the S & C that day was 26 007 piloting 47 443. Together with the previous
picture, these are examples of service trains which were run on several
occasions with advertised special locos providing haulage together with class 47s providing train heating.
50 024 and 50 050 stand at Ribblehead station during a photographic stop whilst working
the 'Fellsman II' railtour on 23 April 1988. I travelled on this train from Gloucester.
Network Southeast liveried 47 583 was also on the S&C that day, working service trains.
An unidentified class 31 is seen at Dent Head with a northbound train on 21 July 1990.
