Class 33's on the Barnstaple branch
This clip was taken in August 1984 using a super8 cine camera and shows class 33's on the Barnstaple branch.
The first part of the clip was taken at Barnstaple station and shows a 'run-round' sequence following the arrival of the train from Exeter.
At the time, Barnstaple still
had signalling and a run- round loop as well as sidings within the station area. Some shots were taken from the roadbridge just to the north of
the station and the disused line to Torrington can still be seen in situ.
The second part shows two class 33 hauled trains passing in the loop at Eggesford. This was common on summer Saturdays that year.
