The Weymouth Quay branch
The Weymouth Quay branch was well known for being a place where main
line passenger trains could be seen running down the centre of the street. In this view,
the train is just entering the 'street running' section.
A few minutes later, the train is pictured making its way down the centre of the road.
All the pictures on this page were taken on 15 August 1987, which was the last
year that timetabled trains operated over the line.
At the time, there was one train per day. This ran empty to Weymouth Quay and
then conveyed passengers to Waterloo. These pictures show 33 114 with the empty stock working.
As the train only proceeded at walking speed it was easy to get plenty
of pictures of the same train in different places along the line. On this occasion
there were no parked cars blocking the path of the train!
